Want a break from the rush of city life? Get in touch with your outdoorsy side at Deep Creek Lake. It’s about a 3-hour drive away, but it’s worth every moment to be in the heart of the mountains, surrounded by nature. There’s no shortage of activities, like water skiing, hiking, and swimming. Another great destination for outdoor adventure is Harpers Ferry, just an hour from Baltimore in West Virginia. Plan a day hike along the Appalachian Trail, then return to town for a cozy evening in the historic district.
For the Beach Goer
Labor Day Weekend is the perfect opportunity for one last beach trip before fall begins. Luckily, Baltimore is within driving distance of some truly amazing beach towns. Rehoboth Beach in Delaware is the place to go for a classic boardwalk experience, complete with soft serve and arcade games. Or, visit Ocean City, Maryland, another seaside escape. Just like Rehoboth, it’s only 2.5 hours away and has everything you could want: an exciting boardwalk, beloved restaurants, and more. If a relaxing beach vacation is more your speed, Cape May offers pristine beaches and quaint scenery just 3 hours from Baltimore.
For the History Buff
If you’d like to take advantage of the long weekend to visit some museums or historical sites, there are some excellent nearby options. In fact, Washington, DC is just an hour’s drive away. Check off some Smithsonian museums, or plan a tour of the Monuments. Lancaster is also only an hour away and has some great sites and activities, including historic walking tours.
For the Homebody
Who doesn’t love a little staycation? You don’t have to leave the city to enjoy a luxurious, relaxing weekend. Head to the garden terrace pool right here at the Promenade and enjoy a relaxing day in the sun.

Memorial Day is Monday, May 29, and is meant to observe all soldiers who have died while serving. It’s observed as a Federal Holiday, meaning many people will have time off from work and school. The day is often considered to be the unofficial start of Summer, when beaches start to see visitors and boardwalks and pools open up. If you’re looking for a new place to explore over the long weekend, we’ve curated a list of destinations not too far from your home here at The Promenade:

Rehoboth Beach
Delaware’s very own Rehoboth Beach is a top destination for fun at about 125 miles away. Check out Funland during the day, then check out one of the several restaurants along the boardwalk at night. Looking for a thrill? Be sure top check out Jungle Jim’s or Midway Speedway Park. Or simply enjoy relaxing and laying on the beach!
Cape Charles Beach
At 210 miles away lies Cape Charles Beach, sitting at the very tip of the Delmarva peninsula, in Virginia. Along with the free public beach, there are waterparks, aquariums, state parks, and much much more to visit in the area. Cape Charles Beach also has the largest congregation of historical buildings on the east coast, so check some historic sites while you’re around
OCMD
Also on the Delmarva Peninsula is Ocean City, Maryland, about a 150 mile drive away. With a nice calming beach, there’s a wide array of restaurants and entertainment, as well as the nearby boardwalk. Each district has its own experience, so check out which one fits the tune of your desired visit!

Lancaster
If you’ve ever wanted to check out the Amish country, then now is the perfect time to make the 85 mile trip to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. America’s oldest Amish settlement is the perfect place to take a peek at the life our ancestors lived, riding in horse-drawn carriages and going on their Unique Amish Immersion Experience tour. Once you’ve finished checking out Amish country, be sure to head into downtown Lancaster for elevated fare and unique breweries.
Berkeley Springs
Known as America’s first spa, Berkeley Springs in West Virginia is one of the places to be this Summer, just over 100 miles away. This relaxation destination is filled with culture, food, several shops, and many more activities like horseback riding.

Deep Creek Lake
Deep Creek, Maryland is under a 50 mile drive away, just Northwest of Baltimore. Here, you can explore the mountains, lake, and wilderness, as well as check out different attractions in the area.
Harpers Ferry
The last destination on our list is Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, located just 70 miles away in Maryland. Here, explore the history and nature of the site that sparked the Civil War. Tour the historical sites and museums, take hikes in the Appalachian mountains, go whitewater rafting, and bask in the history of this town.

Labor Day weekend is almost here! As the last long weekend of the summer, it’s a great opportunity for one last hurrah before the weather cools down.
Labor Day is about more than just barbeques and poolside hangouts though––it’s a day to commemorate the contributions of everyone who is part of the workforce. The holiday has been honored since September 1882, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union.
Top Destinations for Labor Day Weekend Trips
Still need to make your long weekend plans? Use this guide to help you create a great Labor Day Weekend itinerary at nearby destinations, all not too far from your home at The Promenade.
1.5 hours away from Baltimore
If you only have time for a day trip, we recommend Harper’s Ferry. As a historical park, Harper’s Ferry offers a glimpse into history dating back to the 1800s. Spend some time checking out the exhibits, then explore the park’s 20+ miles of hiking trails, picnic spots, and more.
2 hours away from Baltimore
Who doesn’t love a quaint coastal town? St. Michael’s is the perfect place to live out your seaside dreams. There are plenty of cute inns and B&Bs to stay in and some great dining options. Don’t miss the town’s one-of-a-kind boutique shopping, too.
2.5 hours away from Baltimore
Enjoy a luxurious stay with a historic charm at Bedford Springs. The Omni Bedford Springs Resort’s beautiful grounds are the perfect place to soak up summer’s last moments. Spend the days poolside or at their world-renowned spa, or play a round of golf.
Tilghman Island is another charming place for a quick Labor Day Weekend vacation. Go sailing, fishing, or stroll around the island, then enjoy a nice dinner at one of their many highly-rated restaurants. With a relaxing slow pace, this island is a great escape from city life.
3 hours away from Baltimore
There’s something for everyone at Ocean City. With everything from water sports, to boutique shopping, to wine tasting, OCMD is a fantastic destination no matter how you want to spend your long weekend.
Or, head to Delaware to visit Rehoboth Beach or Dewey Beach. With exciting nightlife and beautiful beaches, these destinations are perfect for a trip with friends. Spend the day swimming and sunbathing, then enjoy dinner and dessert at one of the beaches’ many eateries.
Another great seaside option is Cape May. Hailed “America’s Oldest Seaside Resort,” Cape May has a rich history of tourism. You can take a walk around town to check out the beautiful architecture, shop at unique local businesses, and, of course, get in some beach time.
Visit Deep Creek to get in touch with nature and spend a weekend at the largest freshwater lake in Maryland. There are lots of cool cabins available for rent, great for large groups. Many even have direct lake access!
3.5 hours away from Baltimore
Enjoy a mountain getaway in the Poconos this Labor Day Weekend. This large mountain range is home to a wide array of things to do. There are some beautiful resorts and spas for a mountainside retreat. Or, if you’re looking for a little more adventure, there are plenty of hikes, adventure parks, and water sports to partake in.
4 hours away from Baltimore
If you have time to travel a little further, check out Assateague Island. It’s just off the coast of Maryland, but it feels like you’re in another world thanks to the unique landscape of salt marshes and maritime forests. There are even wild horses that roam the island, making it a truly one-of-a-kind destination.
