Love is in the air! Cupid is visiting us this Valentine’s Day on Monday, February 14th.
Beyond Love
Originally, Valentine’s Day began as a Pagan holiday — called Lupercalia — in 270 B.C.E. Lupercalia was a feast honoring the deity of fertility and agriculture, Faunus. During the Middle Ages, England and France associated Valentine’s Day with courtship and mating seasons. In 1375, Geoffrey Chaucer even first recorded Valentine’s Day as a romantic celebration. Throughout the centuries, Valentine’s Day began to be celebrated with hand-made valentines, chocolates, and love.
