Celebrate International Yoga Day The Baltimore Way

  |     |   Uncategorized

International Yoga Day is on Monday June 21st, 2021.

Namaste With Yoga

Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that was utilized to connect one’s mind to their body. 5,000 years ago, one conducted yoga to further their path towards enlightenment and equilibrium. Today, yoga has continued to escalate in popularity due to its positive impact on mental and physical health. For many, its practices have astounding spiritual, physiological, and psychological effects.

In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the prospect of an International Yoga Day before the UN General Assembly. Modi chose the date of June 21st, around the Summer Solstice. This international holiday received the highest number of cosponsors compared to all historical UN resolutions.

In 2015, 35,000+ people performed 21 asanas on International Yoga Day. On June 21st, you, too, can engage in yoga, alleviate your stress, and connect with the universe.

Yoga Isn’t Just For Posers

Practicing yoga builds balance, endurance, flexibility, and strength. Yoga also targets specific bodily systems and areas. For instance, yoga enhances the cardiovascular system, heart health, and blood circulation. It can also aid with arthritis and musculoskeletal pain.

Beyond the body, yoga improves quality of life and mental health. Specifically, it alleviates stress, anxiety, depression, and panic. Yoga can also assist with insomnia and sleeping troubles.

So, here’s where and how you can engage in yoga this International Yoga Day and beyond.
