Maryland is Sipping on Liber-TeaIn case you didn’t know, Maryland is infamous for turning the tide during the Revolutionary War. That’s right, Maryland, or “The Maryland Line,” kept British troops at bay. Also, Maryland was a massive supplier of military goods and resources and a spy on British merchant ships from Fell’s Point!
After the war, Maryland became a meeting place for future political activity and is the birthplace of the Star Spangled Banner.
Here’s how to celebrate the Fourth of July in Baltimore this year:
Celebrate the Fourth with a Bang!
Baltimore is known for its flare, so we’re having our Annual Fourth of July Celebration in the Inner Harbor. The party starts at 3:00 p.m. with DJs, live music, street entertainers, food, and drinks. Afterward, the symphony will begin around 8:00 p.m. in Rash Field Park, hitting its crescendo amid the fireworks display, beginning around 9:15 p.m. Read more about the event.
The Baltimore Museum of Industry is hosting an Independence Day Celebration in Federal Hill from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Snag a front-row seat of Baltimore’s fireworks display along the waterfront. Tickets are available for $95/vehicle; the event is BYO food and beverages. Join them and tailgate with friends to celebrate the red, white, and brew!
Happy Fourth to Our Furry Friends
The American Visionary Art Museum will have their free Fourth of July Pet Parade and Talent Show in Federal Hill at 9:00 a.m. Winning categories include “Most Visionary Pet of 2023,” “Most Patriotic, Star-Spangled, Yankee Doodle Pet Award,” “Best Pet Haute Couture,” and “Best Visionary Pet Hair-Do.” It’ll be paws-itively amazing; trust us.
Celebrate Baltimore’s History and Culture
If you want to delve into the history of the American Revolution and its liberation, visit Fort McHenry for the Fourth of July Celebration in Locust Point. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., the Fort will “hoist the colors” by raising the Star Spangled Banner for all to see. At 11:00 a.m., guests will learn about the Battle of Baltimore in North Point. Later, there will be fife and drum performances, musket and cannon demonstrations, and live music.
Celebrate the arts at Cherry Hill’s 7th Annual Arts & Music Waterfront Festival from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Join community leaders to commemorate freedom, unity, remembrance, and Baltimore’s culture.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Promenade!
Whether you love or hate this holiday, we must admit that Valentine’s Day goes way back, and no, it hasn’t always been about chocolates and flowers.
Playing Heart To Get?
Valentine’s Day originated from the Roman holiday, Lupercalia, which commemorated fertility; however, some historians speculate that Valentine’s Day began in Ancient Greece with celebrations of Zeus and Hera’s marriage in February.
In the 5th century, Pope Gelasius declared February 14th as St. Valentine’s Day, and many Catholics honored the day with religious rituals and feasts. These festivities, however, took a romantic turn in 1357. Chaucer’s poetry translated the word “valentine” into a term of endearment for “loved one.” As a result, we now celebrate love and partnership on February 14th, Valentine’s Day.
Couples, Galentine’s, or singles, here’s how to celebrate in Baltimore:
All You Knead Is Love, And A Good Dinner
Does someone octopi your heart? If so, treat them to a delectable dinner at Jimmy’s Famous Seafood. They’re currently accepting Valentine’s Day reservations from 6:00—9:00 p.m. Jimmy’s Famous Seafood will have a prix fixe menu with surf and turf, and mouth-watering desserts.
Schola is hosting an Aphrodisiacs Dinner from 5:00—8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12th. For $90/person, experience roasted oysters, lobster ravioli, beef wellington, and a dark chocolate flourless cake. Tickets are available online.
Mama’s on the Half Shell’s chefs carefully curated their Valentine’s Day menu this year. Their exquisite seafood can be enjoyed in-restaurant with a reservation or at home with carryout options.
Looking for something a bit more romantic? @belvedereandcoevents are partnering with Owl Bar this Valentine’s Day. From 4:00-9:00 p.m., guests can enjoy a prix fixe dinner in the Eager Howard Ballroom. Dinner is $85 per person and includes specialty cocktails and a wine list.
We’re big fans of Bondhouse in Fells Point. This Valentine’s Day, they’re offering a prix fixe menu of $95/person; dinner consists of one shareable appetizer, two entrees, two glasses of wine, and one dessert.
We Love You A Whole Brunch
You don’t need romance to enjoy a boozy brunch. Absolutely Dragulous is throwing a Valentine’s Drag Brunch on Saturday, February 11th, at Peabody’s Heights; doors are open from noon to 2:00 p.m.
Love your girlfriends a latte? Take them out to a Galentine’s Flamingle’s Brunch at the Maryland Zoo. $110 tickets include zoo admission, access to the brunch buffet and open bar, drag performances, bingo, and trivia. Couples and singles are also invited!
These Would Be Gouda For You
Checkerspot is getting cheesy this Valentine’s Day. On Friday, February 10th, they’re hosting a make-your-own charcuterie board event. For 1.5 hours, Christin of Boards in a Box will teach the class how to make the perfect cheese arrangement and compliment cheeses with various types of meat. Tickets are perfect for singles, Galentine’s, or couples; one beer comes with a ticket purchase.
On Saturday, February 11th, Guildford Hall Brewery is hosting a Board in a Box night at noon. If attending by yourself, tickets are $75/person; double admission (two guests) is $90. The first two drinks are free with your ticket purchase.
Gals’ Night Out
Kooper’s Tavern is celebrating Galentine’s Day on February 9th from 6:00—9:00 p.m. There will be pop-up shops, psychic readings, and bottomless prosecco, sangria, and High Noon.
Obsessed with T Swift? No Way Rosé is celebrating the queen herself on Friday, February 10th, with a T Swift Galentine’s Dance from 8:00 p.m. — 2:00 a.m. Tickets are available online.
Party in style at The Point in Fells. On Saturday, February 11, they’re throwing a Girls’ Party at 9:00 p.m. with an open bar, finger foods, photo booth, and DJ. Did you know they also have espresso martini machines available for use?
Looking For a Gift?
Whether it’s for a loved one—or a treat for yourself—these local shops are perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Berries by Quicha is berry nice; their hand-dipped chocolate strawberries are divine. Try some for yourself, or gift a Love Box.
Bin604 is the wine we want, and they’re perfect for yourself, a friend, or a loved one. Shop their world-renowned collection of bubblies, whites, roses, or reds.
Charm City Chocolate will have that special someone melting for you. If you’re not in a relationship, treat yourself to their delicious chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate boxes, chocolate-covered pretzels, truffles, or gummies.
Happy Valentine’s Day
However you choose to celebrate, we hope you have an enjoyable Valentine’s Day!

It’s officially summer, so, get out of your (crab) shell and go explore Baltimore during the sunniest time of year.
If you just don’t know where to start, then take a look at our summer bucket list. Here’s how to summer in Baltimore:
Anything is Popsicle
Everyone in Baltimore knows that snowballs are far superior to shaved ice.
Since the 1800s, snowballs have been a great way to beat the hot and humid weather. Snowballs are made from shaved ice, but are chunkier than Italian ice—the ice isn’t too delicate, but not too chunky. Therefore, they don’t melt or “water down” easily.
In the Great Depression, snowballs, aka “penny sundaes,” became a Baltimore staple. Baltimoreans started to sweeten the ice with vanilla, eggs, and sugar. Today, this flavor is called “Egg Custard,” artificial flavoring often topped with melted marshmallow. And, there’s a snowball for everyone, from tutti frutti and raspberry, to margarita flavors.
Icequeens is one of the coolest snowballs in town. If you haven’t heard of them, Ice Queens is a local Black- and female-owned business. After working at a snowball stand for several years, Dasia Kabia decided to open her own business. It’s been over a year later, and her shop is thriving! Kabia models her snowballs after New Orleans, and even utilizes an authentic Louisian snowball machine from the 1920s. All of her flavors are vegan-friendly.
For traditional Baltimore snowballs, be sure to check out Icy Delights in Brewer’s Hill.
For gourmet snowballs, visit Quality Snowballs in Hampden.
Baltimore’s a Real Catch This Summer
Don’t miss this baseball season — the Baltimore Orioles are on fire!
The Orioles are playing the Yankees this upcoming Sunday on July 24th at 1:35 p.m. Don’t miss out on an awesome game, and a chance to give back to the Maryland Food Bank. Baseball fans are encouraged to bring canned goods or monetary donations in the Annual Food and Funds Drive.
You have to get a Stuggy’s hot dog whilst watching the game — and a Natty Boh, of course.
The Water Taxi is the Best Way to Get Around
Enjoy the summer breeze, and ride the Water Taxi for the best way to get around town this summer. Or, embark on one of their BYO twilight cruises for a memorable night out.
Would You Love to See More Films?
If so, see a free outdoor movie at Flicks on the Hill. Starting at sundown, the American Visionary Art Museum is playing films every Thursday from 5:00-9:00 p.m.
Get Served This Summer
Who doesn’t dig volleyball?
Come watch a game at Baltimore Beach and enjoy some harbor views. Or, drop in and play a game for yourself.
Feelin’ a Little Crabby?
Baltimore loves crabs! Crab picking is a rite-of-passage for Baltimoreans. Not only are crabs a popular summer attraction, but they’re topped with Baltimore’s most popular flavor; Old Bay!
Don’t miss out on the best place to get crabs — visit the Crab Deck at Captain James for delicious crabs and waterfront views.
Time to Get Into the Summer Spirit
Soak up the sun at these outdoor bars.
Little Havanas is a local restaurant centered around Cuban cuisine. If you like the summer heat, try their spicy margarita with jalapeño tequila. Or, cool down with their spiked huckleberry lemonade.
The Sandlot is back this season! With the sand and harbor views, they’re bringing the beach to Baltimore. Sandlot offers canned seltzers, margs, and beers. They’re also serving their infamous slushies and crushes.
Ouzo Beach is just steps away from the Promenade. Their outdoor bar is inspired by a Mediterranean villa. Oh, and don’t forget that it looks out over the inner harbor. Sip on their refreshing Phane’s Poison this summer, concocted with citron vodka, lime, honey, and basil.
Happy Summer
From The Promenade family to yours, we wish everyone a great summer! If you do take any of our summer suggestions, be sure to tag us in your photos, @ThePromenadeHE.

During Samhain, many celebrated the end of the harvest season through festivals and feasts. On October 31st, however, many believed that the dead could communicate with the living. So, meals were prepared for deceased relatives and/or loved ones.
P.S.: Jack O’Lanterns were believed to ward off evil spirits! If you’re interested in the folklore and history behind Halloween, then read more here.
